Computer Engineering Technology
The Computer Engineering Technology Curriculum provides
the skills required to install, service, and maintain computers,
peripherals, networks, and microprocessor and computercontrolled
equipment. It includes training in both hardware
and software, emphasizing operating systems concepts to
provide a unified view of computer systems.
Coursework includes mathematics, electronics, digital circuits,
and programming, with emphasis on the operation, use, and
interfacing of memory and devices to the CPU. Additional
topics may include communications, networks, operating
systems, programming languages, Internet configuration and
design, and industrial applications.
Graduates should qualify for employment opportunities in
electronics technology, computer service, computer networks,
server maintenance, programming, and other areas requiring
a knowledge of electronic and computer systems. Graduates
may also qualify for certification in electronics, computers, or
networks.
Microcomputer Servicing Certificate
Sandhills offers a certificate in Microcomputer Servicing.
Through hands-on experience you will learn computer upgrade
and repair including hardware and software installation.
The certificate can satisfy the needs of beginners interested
in a new career, as well as industry professionals who wish
to enhance their skills. All the courses in this certificate
count towards the Associate in Applied Science in Computer
Engineering Technology.
Upon successful completion of the six classes that constitute
the CET certificate, students will be prepared to take the
industry recognized CompTIA A+ certification. This
certification validates the knowledge and skills of entry-level
computer service technicians. It is an international, vendorneutral
certification recognized by major hardware and software
vendors, distributors and resellers.
A CompTIA A+ credential is the perfect entry into an IT
career. It is part of the certification track for corporations
such as Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco and Novell. Other
technology companies including CompuCom and Ricoh have
made CompTIA A+ certification mandatory for their service
technicians.
