Orientation for Online Courses

All online courses include an assignment to verify your attendance in the course. Some instructors also require students to contact them before the semester begins.  To find out if your instructor requires this contact, please visit the Class/Seats Available listing for the semester.

It is important that you login to your course during the first three days of the semester and complete the required Orientation Assignment to demonstrate you are actively participating in the course. (For summer five week sessions, you must login and complete the activity on the first day of class.)

Each instructor is required to report to the Office of Records and Registration and to Financial Aid any student that is not participating in a course by the 10% date. Participation is not just logging into the course. You must complete the Orientation Assignment to be counted as officially enrolled. If you do not complete an assignment, you will be reported as never attended to the Office of Records and Registration and to the Financial Aid office and you will be dropped from the course.

Early participation in your course is one of the best ways to ensure that you will complete the course successfully by the end of the semester.

Attendance Requirements for Online Courses

By completing assignments and logging in, you are demonstrating your attendance in your online course.

Remember, students who do not log in and complete the orientation assignment will be marked as “Never Attended” and will be removed from the course. This drop may affect your financial aid and your ability to register for classes in the future.

If circumstances prevent you from completing your online course, you must follow the normal course withdrawal procedures, which include obtaining your advisor’s approval. Failure to do so may result in an “F” for the course. Your advisor or the Student Success and Advising Center can assist you if you need to drop a course.
