MANY SCC CLASSES SET TO BEGIN IN APRIL AT THE HOKE CENTER

The Sandhills Community College Hoke Center is responding to growing community needs by offering more classes spring semester.

Advanced Manufacturing

“Basic Programmable Logic Controls (PLC)” will teach you basic logic operations, the creation of a PLC program, design of complex logic operations, storage function applications, implementation of program flow control, analog processing, and how to solve complex text assignments. This is the second of three classes in the SCC Automated Technology Certificate program.

Before enrolling, basic electronics or basic knowledge of control engineering (basic logical operations, flip-flops, timers, counters, process control, function plans is required. The basic understanding of programming with RSLogix 5000 Rockwell Programming Software is also needed.

“Basic Programmable Logic Controls (PLC)” will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, April 2-Aug. 1 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $235.

Industry

Participants who successfully complete the “Fork Lift Operator” course will be eligible for the forklift operator’s license. Topics include the basic design of lift trucks, stabilization of trucks, maintenance, repair costs and safety aspects of the operation.

“Fork Lift Operator” will be held April 27 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and  Saturday from 8 a.m.-Noon. The cost is $75 plus the cost of the text.

Public Safety

Gain the skills needed to possibly save a life in the class, “CPR for Healthcare Providers.” If you are a healthcare professional who needs to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings, this class is for you.

“CPR for Healthcare Providers” will be held on Wednesday, April 18 from 6 p.m.-10 p.m.

An additional, “CPR for Healthcare Providers” class will be held on Wednesday, May 9 from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. The cost of the class is $54 and includes the card fee.

Career Training

A “Notary Public” is officially authorized to witness signatures on legal documents, collect sworn statements, and administer oaths. Participants must have a high school diploma or GED and no felony convictions.

“Notary Public” will be held May 22 and 24 from 5:30-9 p.m. The cost is $75 plus the cost of the text.

Customized Training for Business and Industry

The Sandhills Community College Continuing Education team can customize courses to meet the specific needs of a business or industry, provide resources to assist in developing new training initiatives or to maintain and support current efforts. Courses can be held at convenient times for you and your staff at any SCC location, your business, or other convenient locations.

Registration

Seats are still available for these spring classes. To register in person, stop by the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall. You may also register by phone with a credit card at (910) 695-3980. Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
