The Sandhills Community College Foundation
What is the Sandhills Community College Foundation?
Founded in 1969, the Sandhills Community College Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation whose purpose is to promote the mission of Sandhills Community College in the community and seek financial support from the community. The Foundation ensures that donated funds are invested wisely and disbursed in ways that contribute to the ongoing excellence of Sandhills Community College. The SCC Foundation was the first community college foundation in North Carolina.
Since 1963, when Mrs. Mary Luman Meyer gave the gift of 250 acres of land on Airport Road in Southern Pines which created Sandhills Community College, the college has been blessed and enriched by the private support of its students, programs, facilities and capital needs.
These gifts have changed thousands of students’ lives, modernized classrooms, purchased state-of-the-art instructional equipment, created the renowned Sandhills Horticultural Gardens, and supported the high-quality cultural programs for which the college is known. During the past four decades, Sandhills has achieved a level of excellence rare among American colleges. Much of that has only been possible through the truly remarkable level of private support the college has received over the years. Please contact Rick Smith, Dean of Institutional Advancement (910) 695-3716 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more about the history of philanthropy at Sandhills Community College and how you can become a part of this very special tradition.
What is the Composition of the Foundation?
The Foundation is comprised of a volunteer Board of Directors made up of representatives from the college’s board of trustees and people from the community. The work of the board is accomplished through a number of standing and special committees. Staff support for the work of the SCC Foundation is provided by the SCC Development Office.
