Department Overview
The Fine Arts Departments offers art, drama, and music courses for students enrolled in Associate in Arts, Associate in Applied Science, Associate in General Education, and Associate in Science degree programs. The Fine Arts Department also prepares art and music majors for transfer to senior institutions. The Associate in Fine Arts in Art degree is designed to prepare students for transfer to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program at a senior college or university. Students will receive a foundation in art history, 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional design, fundamentals of drawing, and an introduction to studio processes in several areas of interest. Upon graduation, they should be able to present a portfolio that will enable them to transfer to a senior institution and to continue their preparation for becoming professional designers, artists, and art teachers. The Associate in Fine Arts in Music and Music Education degree is designed to prepare students for transfer to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program at a senior college or university. Students will receive a foundation in music theory, music history, and applied music performance skills. Students should be able to audition on their primary instrument or voice and complete theory and history placement exams to allow them to continue work as juniors and to begin an area of concentration at the transfer institution.
