Emergency Plan Review
October 8, 2004

The First Responder Committee suggests that all faculty and staff take a moment to review the instructions that are provided in the event of any campus emergency. We specifically ask that faculty review these instructions with their classes.

Please note that in the event of an evacuation of one or more building(s), it is mandatory for every individual to leave the building. No individual will be allowed to return to the building, for any reason, until a college official has made an All-Clear announcement.

Where do you find this information? Faculty and Staff Emergency Plan
Every employee on campus should have a copy of this plan. These were distributed by the First Responder Committee and were copied on lavender paper.

Instructions For Emergencies
Every classroom, meeting area, or commons area on campus should have a copy of this plan posted. These were distributed by the First Responder Committee and were copied on pink paper.

First Responder Teams Emergency Plan
Currently, core members of this team have a copy of this plan. In the near future, every member of the First Responder Teams will have a copy of this plan. These are copied on multi-colored paper in the style of a flip chart.

Code Blue Box Operation
These emergency boxes provide users with a simple way to call for emergency assistance. With the pressing of a large, red button, the user will hear an automated response that tells him or her that the call has been completed and the user should speak clearly into the telephone. During college operational hours, the call goes to the switchboard. When the college is closed, the call is automatically sent to 911 after failing to reach the switchboard.
An Emergency Code Blue Box is located between Owens Auditorium and Kennedy Hall and a second box is located on the sidewalk leading to Van Dusen Hall between Meyer and Causey Halls.

Emergency Telephone Operation

Emergency telephones are placed in twelve (12) locations around campus:
  • near the automotive building
  • adjacent to Heutte Hall
  • inside Kennedy Hall
  • at the rear of Kennedy Hall
  • on the Blue Hall end of the walkway between Blue and Kennedy
  • in the picnic shelter
  • Meyer Hall courtyard
  • at the visitors' parking lot
  • behind Van Dusen Hall
  • on the corner at the maintenance building
  • on the ball field (Homer parking lot)
  • in the courtyard adjacent to Owens Auditorium
Emergency telephones are equipped with a red emergency button. In the event of an emergency, push the red button. During college operational hours, the call goes to the switchboard. When the college is closed, the call is automatically sent to “911”. Additionally, these phones may be used for requesting routine assistance for jump-starting vehicles, unlocking vehicles, etc. To use the non-emergency function, push the black button and dial “0”. When your call is completed, push the black button again.

In the event of a campus emergency, please clear all communication lines. If you have a two-way radio, please cease all communication until the emergency has been addressed.

Should you have any questions, concerns, or need copies of any of the plans listed above, please do not hesitate to contact Charla Matthews at ext. 3889 in the Maintenance Building.
