Employment Opportunities Counselor – Student Support Services TRIO Grant Sandhills Community College welcomes applications for a Student Support Services (TRIO Grant) Counselor. This full-time, 12 month position is funded by a federal Student Support Services TRIO Grant (Project Promise) to help low-income, first-generation, and students with learning disabilities complete post-secondary degrees. The successful candidate will report to the Project Director and will be responsible for providing individualized academic support to a cohort of 160 participants. The Counselor collaborates with the project team to assist students in overcoming barriers to meet their academic and personal goals. Qualifications: Master’s degree in counseling and experience working with disadvantaged populations is required. Experience in a postsecondary institution is preferred. The Counselor must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and have the ability to work collegially with all faculty and staff. Minority Male Mentoring Program Coordinator Sandhills Community College seeks applications for a part-time (20-hour/wk.) Minority Male Mentoring Program Coordinator within the Department of Student Services. Reporting to the Vice President of Student Services, the Program Coordinator oversees the development and implementation of the Minority Male Mentoring Program to ensure quality and performance related to recruiting, screening, matching, monitoring and closing relationships of the program through collaborative efforts with campus resources. In addition to providing academic, social and professional opportunities for minority males, the Coordinator will also serve as an Advising Associate in the Student Services Division; assisting students upon testing and providing additional support to the division as needed. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred; in social work, psychology, and/or education. Experience working with post-secondary and developmental students preferred. Experience working with racially, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse populations. Two (2) or more years experience in mentoring or program development and/or working with community organizations and/or schools. Excellent organizational, writing, verbal and interpersonal skills required. Creativity and flexibility are essential in assuming significant responsibility.
