Sandhills Community College’s new “Belong” advertising campaign will feature current and recent students. The ad you see here will appear in The Pilot’s upcoming High School Graduation Publication. A similar ad will be in the Hoke News-Journal graduation section.
Devon Moore was photographed as she waited for the PKT Induction Ceremony to begin last month.
Devon began thinking about attending Sandhills Community College when her brother was a high school student enrolled in the Career and College Promise program. She quickly realized how valuable and economical it would be to obtain a degree from SCC.
“Because I began at Sandhills, I am now able to transfer to a four-year university with two years’ worth of college credits.”
After graduating from The O’Neal School, Sandhills provided Devon, “a place to grow but also feel safe after high school.”
Her experience at Sandhills would not have been complete without the exceptional staff and faculty supporting her along the way. She contributes her success to her instructor, Kathryn Brannan who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Her joy upon getting accepted to UNC was shared with her advisor Susan Grine, who spent a good deal of time answering questions and registering Devon for classes, as well as writing one of her letters of recommendations for UNC.
Devon graduated in May with an Associate in Arts and plans on attending UNC-Chapel Hill in the fall. She will finish her summer by continuing her job at Maren’s PANDORA and kayaking at the Southern Pines Reservoir on sunny days.
The future is bright for Devon and she hopes to one day teach English as a second language to children in Spain.More Posts
