Surgical Technology Degree |
The Surgical Technology curriculum prepares individuals to assist in the care of the surgical patient in the operating room and to function as a member of the surgical team.
Students will apply theoretical knowledge to the care of patients undergoing surgery to develop skills necessary to prepare supplies,equipment,and instruments; maintain aseptic conditions; prepare patients for surgery; and assist surgeons during operations.
Graduates of this program will be eligible to apply to take the Liaison Council’s Certification Examination for Surgical Technologists. Employment opportunities include labor/delivery/emergency departments, inpatient/outpatient surgery centers, dialysis units/facilities, physicians’offices, and central supply processing units.
The Surgical Technology program at Sandhills is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
The Surgical Technology curriculum offers two options - a degree and a diploma program. Completion of the degree program is highly recommended as it prepares the graduate to be a practitioner with a broader knowledge base in this field of Surgical Technology.

A certified surgical technologist (CST) is a member of the surgical team who works with surgeons, anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during, and after surgery.
