Surgical Technology Admission Information
The Surgical Technology Program at Sandhills Community College offers
two options for students: a diploma program or an Associate in Applied
Science degree. Upon successful completion of first three semesters of
Surgical Technology and earning a diploma, the student is eligible to
take the National Board Exam for Surgical Technologists. Students who
are sucessful with the Board Certification Exam may elect to enter
second year studies.
Steps for Admission to Surgical Technology
Stage I: Complete Stage I as soon as possible--date of qualification is
based on completion of Stage I and seating is limited.
- Apply and be accepted to Sandhills Community College
- Declare Surgical Technology as your major.
- Send one official high school transcript to the SCC Admissions
Office which verifies graduation or GED verification and also have a
copy sent to you.
- Transcript documents grade *C* or better in Anatomy/Physiology in high school or college.
- Take course placement test or qualify for test exemption
(Previous college work is evaluated by SCC registrar--have official
transcripts from previous college(s) sent to Admissions and also
request a copy for yourself). Sandhills accepts Asset, Compass,
Accuplacer, ACT, SAT taken within the past 5 years. Testing office
number is 695-3733. Your advisor utilizes this information for course
placement.
- Once you have taken a placement test or qualified for an exemption, attend SCC Orientation and meet with assigned advisor.
- Place into ENG 111.
- Place out of Math 060 and 070 or complete course with a C or better.
- Discuss course placement with your advisor.
- Interview with Surgical Technology faculty and complete admissions checklist.
Stage II: To be completed summer prior to starting program.
- Attend Surgical Technology summer orientation.
- Complete Medical forms.
- Turn in an essay explaining your understanding of Surgical Technology.
- Obtain American Heart Association-Health Care Provider CPR certification.
- Receive final placement letter from the Surgical Technology program coordinator.
