Medical Laboratory Technology

T he Medical Laboratory Technology curriculum prepares an individual to perform clinical laboratory procedures in chemistry, hematology, microbiology and immunohematology that may be used in the maintenance of health and diagnosis or treatment of disease.

C ourse work emphasizes mathematical and scientific concepts related to specimen collection, laboratory testing and procedures, quality assurance, reporting, recording and interpreting findings involving tissues, blood and body fluids.

G raduates are eligible to take examinations given by the Board of Registry of Medical Technologists of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or the National Certifying Agency. Employment opportunities include laboratories in hospitals, medical offices, industry, and research facilities.

S tudents will complete their clinical rotations at one of the following clinical affiliates:

· Montgomery Memorial Hospital

C linical Laboratory Science is a dynamic, progressive field with career mobility. Many of the graduates of the Sandhills program have completed advanced degrees and gone on to a variety of careers.
