Cosmetology

Cosmetology - Curriculum Description
Cosmetology The Cosmetology curriculum is designed to provide competency-based knowledge, scientific/artistic principles, a nd hands-on fundamentals associated with the cosmetology industry. The curriculum provides a simulated salon environment which enables students to develop employable skills.

Course work includes instruction in all phases of professional imaging, hair design, chemical processes, skin care, nail care, multi-cultural practices, business/computer principles, product knowledge, and other selected topics.

 

 



Special Program Requirements

  1. Purchase of the 2004 edition Milady Standard Textbook of Cosmetology book bundle from the SCC bookstore. The approximate cost is $170.00. Also, at the beginning of the first and secend semester of the program it is required that a Student Kit be purchased from the SCC bookstore. It cost on an average of $150 - $350 depending on the semester.
  2. Purchase of uniforms and shoes. Nametags will be provided by the Cosmetology Department.
  3. Students enrolled in the program should not be subject to colorblindness, be pregnant, or have sensitivity to chemicals.
  4. Students should be physically able to use cosmetology equipment such as scissors and clippers, and should be able to stand for long periods of time.

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Acceptable scores on the ASSET test
  • Admission to SCC does not guarantee placement
    in the Cosmetology Program

Employment
Opportunities

Graduates should qualify to sit for the State Board of Cosmetic Arts Examination. Upon successfully passing the State Board exam, graduates will be issued a license.
