| Entrepreneurship
and small business will play a key role in the U.S. economy by
providing jobs to a large segment of the workforce in the next decade.
With these changes will come many new skills that the worker will need
in this entrepreneurial environment. The Management and Business
Technologies Department, the Sandhills Community College Small Business Center, and the
business community invite you to experience a unique and innovative
learning environment.
The
Entrepreneurship Certificate is a one- or two-semester program that
prepares you for a new employment perspective. The certificate is
offered to help students become entrepreneurial thinkers in order to
start their own entrepreneurial ventures, to work on management teams
of entrepreneurial ventures, or to apply their entrepreneurial
abilities to an existing business.
The Department of Management and Business Technologies at Sandhills Community College is joining the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE) and the Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education (CEE) where the sample program for Sandhills Community College can be found by clicking here. As members of NACCE, we are
adopting the CEE’s National Standards for Entrepreneurship Education.
"My experience overall has been challenging, encouraging, stimulating... This program was just what I was looking for: a way to get the tools and knowledge to test the waters."
- Entrepreneur Student Mia Piazza |
"The program has taught me real life scenarios that I could have only imagined. It gives you the opportunity to do what society does not: make mistakes and learn from them before you start your business."
- Entrepreneur Student Crystal Taylor |

The program has 3 phases that includes the Department of Management and Business Technologies, The Sandhills Small Business Center, and business leaders of the Sandhills where traditional tools of curriculum courses, workshops, mentoring program, small business competition, business incubator, angel network, and alumni network are set. While Phase I focuses on completion of the Entrepreneurship Certificate, the second and third phases of entrepreneurial training involve the creation and growth of an entrepreneurial network where alumni of the certificate program and members of the business community can network. Students can participate in all three phases simultaneously. For more information click here to view the Entrepreneurship Brochure.
Sandhills Community College offers a Mentoring Program for students in the process of earning their Entrepreneurship Certificate. The Program pairs an experienced professional mentor with student mentee, who work on an individual basis to develop a unique business plan suited to the
student's actual venture. Those participating in the process also meet periodically as a group, in a self-structured mode, to further enhance
their development. For a copy of the contract, click on Mentoring Agreement. Students in the program who choose this opportunity will graduate with a special seal on their diploma, indicating this achievement.
The Entrepreneurship Certificate complements any technical/vocational degree here at Sandhills Community College as well as allows any new and existing small business to apply this entrepreneurial education to their business. As 700 of the 900 businesses in Moore County are small
businesses, you may very well choose to run a small business yourself in your work life. We invite you to join us here at Sandhills Community
College to pursue our new Business Administration Entrepreneurship Certificate Program.
Students have their own entrepreneurial ventures such as landscaping and gardening, restoring vintage 190 SL Mercedes, building custom-stair works, patenting an invention, or running a garden gift retail shop.
Typical tasks include creating a business, managing day-to-day cash flow, using QuickBooks, an accounting software applications product, creating and maintaining a web site, and creating a competitive advantage in the market place.
