What is the GED?
The Tests of General Education Development (GED Tests) are internationally recognized. They have been designed to measure major academic skills and knowledge in core content areas that are learned during four years of high school. When an adult passes the 7 ½ hour GED Tests battery, the resulting GED credential certifies that he or she has attained subject matter knowledge and skills associated with high school completion. The GED test measures your knowledge in five areas: writing, language arts/reading, social studies, science, and mathematics. The tests on each of these areas stress general knowledge, thinking skills, and the ability to communicate clearly. For more information go to the American Council on Education
Why do I need a GED?
Over the past decades, research has shown that men and women who are high school graduates or have completed their GED earn a much higher salary than those who have not finished high school. So, if you are planning to begin your GED work, you are a savvy person who knows how important this step can be to your ultimate success -finding a good job!
If you think that you have been out of school too long to jump back in, think about this: in the time you have been away from the classroom, you have gained knowledge and skills that may actually put you ahead of the high school students. You are an adult with an adult's discipline and determination. You are an ideal candidate for the GED program.
When can I take the GED test(s)?
Prior to taking any of the tests, you are expected to prepare on your own or with the help of a GED instructor. A Student must score 236 or higher on the assesment before taking the GED practice tests. The student must pass the practice test on all five subjects to be able to take the official GED Test.
