Personal and Home Care

The Personal and Home Care Program is a comprehensive program designed to provide the skills and training needed for the student to be successful as a Personal and Home Care professional.

PHASE I - Introduction to Direct Care Work
Introduces you to general job requirements, necessary skills, and responsibilities of the Personal and Home Care professional. You will assess your capacity for direct care work in the Personal and Home Care setting. To register contact Jenny Troyer at (910) 695-3926 or troyerj@sandhills.edu.

PHASE II - Direct Care Basics
Provides specific introduction and training in the individual necessary skills practiced by the direct care worker in the Personal and Home Care areas. PHASE III—Nurse Aide Level I (NAS 101)
Provides education in basic personal care nursing skills, covering communications, safety, patients’ rights, personal care, vital signs, elimination, nutrition, emergencies, rehabilitation, and mental health. Completers should have requisite skills to qualify as a Nursing Assistant I with the NC Nurse Aide I Registry. PHASE IV—Home Care Nurse Aide
Emphasizes advanced training in person-centered care, patient and person safety, hydration/nutrition, mental health, behavioral challenges, pain management, palliative care, and stress management delivered in a home care setting. Requires Nurse Aide Level I Registry. Completers are eligible for listing as a home care nurse aide with the NC Nurse Aide Registry. This course has a fee waiver if you are 65 or older. Learn computer basics and use the Key Train software to prepare for the Career Readiness Assessment (which is required to progress to Phase 3 of this program, Nurse Aide Level I).

Certified Nursing Assistant, Level 1
Refresher & Test Prep
Designed to refresh Nursing Assistant I skills required by the state for NC NA Registry listing. You must have already completed a state certified NA1 program prior to enrollment. A copy of your Certificate of Completion or a transcript is required. Please contact Dottie Bement at (910) 695-3965 for verification of registration eligibility and class schedule. This course has a fee waiver if you are 65 or older.
