Career Training Classes to Begin in June at SCC

The Continuing Education Career Training program at Sandhills Community College is a perfect local resource for adult learners who want to improve workplace skills, achieve job certification or recertification, improve employment marketability, or explore new opportunities.

Healthcare

Massage therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, athletic trainers, nurses, and doctors may benefit from “Massage Therapy Fascia Mafia.” This new class will teach how to correct fascial imbalances in the sacrum and pelvis through myofascial release and other soft tissue manipulations. “Massage Therapy Fascia Mafia” will be held on Monday, June 3, from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $75.

Other healthcare courses offered later this summer will be “Central Sterile Processing,” “Medical Administrative Assistant” and “Phlebotomy Technician.” Refer to the Career Training section of the Continuing Education portion of www.sandhills.edu.

Automotive

Successful completion of “Auto Safety Inspection” certifies you to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is a valid driver’s license. This class will be held on Monday, June 10 and Tuesday, June 11 from 6-10 p.m. Two other summer classes will be offered on Monday, July 15 and Tuesday, July 16 and on Monday, Aug. 12 and Tuesday, Aug. 13. The cost is $75.

“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles OBD Emissions Control Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is “Certified Auto Safety Inspection.” This is also the Recertification class. The class will be on Monday, June 12 and Thursday, June 13 from 6-10 p.m. Two other classes will be offered on Wednesday, July 17 and Thursday, July 18 and Monday, Aug. 26 and Tuesday, Aug. 27. The cost is $75.

Business

An E-Notary is a Notary Public who notarizes documents electronically. One of the methods employed by E-Notaries is the use of a digital signature and digital notary seal to notarize digital documents and validate with a digital certificate. Individuals must have a current notary commission to participate in E-Notary training. “Electronic Notary Public” will be taught on Tuesday, June 11 from 9 a.m.-Noon. The cost is $75 plus the cost of the text.

A notary public is officially authorized to witness signatures on legal documents, collect sworn statements, and administer oaths. “Notary Public” will be held on Tuesday, June 11 and Thursday, June 13 from 5:30-9 p.m. A second class will be offered on Tuesday, Aug. 13 and Thursday, Aug. 15. The cost is $75 plus the cost of the text.

Food Service

Learn the basics of food handling safety and facility sanitation requirements in “ServSafe® Food Safety and Sanitation.” Recommended for all food service facilities, including supervisory personnel, culinary professionals, and food service staff. “ServSafe® Food Safety and Sanitation” will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays, June 17-June 25 from 5:30-9 p.m. The cost is $75 plus the cost of the text.

Customized Training for Business and Industry

The Sandhills Community College Continuing Education team can customize courses to meet the specific needs of a business or industry, provide resources to assist in developing new training initiatives or to maintain and support current efforts. Courses can be held at convenient times for you and your staff at any SCC location, your business, or other convenient locations.

Seats are still available for these classes. To register in person, stop by the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall. You may also register by phone with a credit card at (910) 695-3980. Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. until Noon.
