Career Training Classes Begin in May at SCC

Start training for your new career this May. The Continuing Education Career Training program at Sandhills Community College is a perfect local resource for adult learners who want to improve workplace skills, achieve job certification or recertification, improve employment marketability or explore new opportunities.

Healthcare Occupations

In “EKG Technician” learn the required skills to become a certified EKG Technician and work in a variety of healthcare settings. Topics include cardiac anatomy and physiology, cardiac cycle, EKG strip analysis, 12 lead EKG, and EKG procedures. This class prepares you for the EKG certification with ASPT.

“EKG Technician” will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, May 20-Aug. 14 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. The cost is $185 plus the cost of the text.

Prepare for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam and entry-level employment in the class “Pharmacy Technician.” Topics include technical procedures for preparing and dispensing prescriptions, packaging and labeling, controlled substance procedures, inventory control, pharmacy calculations, and over-the-counter drugs. Upon completion, you will be able to perform basic supervised dispensing techniques in a community pharmacy setting.

“Pharmacy Technician” will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, May 21-Aug. 7 from 6-9:30 p.m. The cost is $185 plus the cost of the text.

Automotive

Successful completion of “Auto Safety Inspection” certifies you to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is a valid driver’s license.

“Auto Safety Inspection” will be held on Monday, May 13, and Tuesday, May 14 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75. 

“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles OBD Emissions Control Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is “Certified Auto Safety Inspection.” This is also the Recertification class.

“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” will be held on Monday, May 20 and Tuesday, May 21 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.

Business

Designed for those interested in becoming a bank teller, “Bank Teller Training” includes an introduction to banking operations, handling cash, balancing operations, customer relations, and security procedures.

“Bank Teller Training” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 21-June 27 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $130 plus the cost of the text.

Prepare for the F.A.A. Part 107 Remote Pilot certification exam in the class “F.A.A. Remote Drone Pilot Certification.” Topics include flight theory, flight operations, and flight training, national air space & weather utilizing the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Remote Pilot – Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Study Guide, North Carolina Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operator Permit Knowledge Test Study Guide, and North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Division of Aviation UAS flight standards & best practices. Upon completion, you will be prepared to sit for the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Knowledge Test and NCDOT UAS Operator Permit.

“F.A.A. Remote Drone Pilot Certification” will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 21-June 20 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. class time, and Saturdays, June 1 and 15 from 10 a.m-2:30 p.m., flying time. The cost is $130 plus the cost of the text.

Industry

Complete “Forklift Operator” and become eligible for the forklift operator’s license. Topics include the basic design of lift trucks, stabilization of trucks, maintenance, repair costs and safety aspects in operation.

“Fork Lift Operator” will be held on Friday, May 17 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday, May 18 from 8 a.m.-Noon. The cost is $75 plus the cost of the text.

Teambuilding

The “Sandhills High Adventure Ropes Course” will guide participants through physical and mental challenges, which promote creative, productive, and motivated teams. It will challenge participants to succeed in team building, self-motivation, problem-solving, decision-making, and effective communication. Prior registration required. Must be at least 16 years old. Waiver and medical release forms required. Parent signature required if under 18. Email degrel@sandhills.edu for required forms. You can also schedule your own private group adventure.

“Sandhills High Adventure Ropes Course” will be held on Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $75.

Customized Training for Business and Industry

The Sandhills Community College Continuing Education team can customize courses to meet the specific needs of a business or industry, provide resources to assist in developing new training initiatives or to maintain and support current efforts. Courses can be held at convenient times for you and your staff at any SCC location, your business, or other convenient locations.

Seats are still available for these classes. To register in person, stop by the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall. You may also register by phone with a credit card at (910) 695-3980. Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. until Noon.
