Career Training Classes Begin in April at Sandhills

Spend some time spring cleaning your skills. The Continuing Education Career Training program at Sandhills Community College is a perfect local resource for adult learners who want to improve workplace skills, achieve job certification or recertification, improve employment marketability or explore new opportunities.

Medication Administration Aide

“Medication Administration Aide” is designed to meet training requirements for the NC Board of Nursing Medication Aide Certification. The training prepares Nurse Aides to administer medications to skilled nursing facility residents. Course topics include scope of duties, legal and ethical responsibilities, administration of medications by various routes, infection control and documentation including commonly used abbreviations.

“Medication Administration Aide” will be held on April 18, 23, 25 and 26 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The cost is $75 plus the cost of the text.

Automotive Technologies

Successful completion of “Auto Safety Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is a valid driver’s license.

“Auto Safety Inspection” will be held on Monday, April 15 and Tuesday, April 16 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75. 

“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” certifies students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles OBD Emissions Control Inspection Law. The prerequisite for this class is “Certified Auto Safety Inspection.” This is also the Recertification class.

“OBD Emissions Control Inspection” will be held on Monday, April 29 and Tuesday, April 30 from 6-10 p.m. The cost is $75.

Required of all non-franchise vehicle dealers in NC, “Vehicle Dealers’ Continuing Education” will include updates of NC general statutes and DMV policies and procedures.

“Vehicle Dealers’ Continuing Education” will be held on Thursday, April 4 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Notary Public

A “Notary Public” is officially authorized to witness signatures on legal documents, collect sworn statements, and administer oaths. Participants must have a high school diploma or GED and no felony convictions.

“Notary Public” will be held on Tuesday, April 23 and Thursday, April 25 from 5:45-9:15 p.m. The cost is $75 plus the cost of the text.

Teambuilding Ropes Course

The “Sandhills High Adventure Ropes Course” will guide participants through physical and mental challenges, which promote creative, productive, and motivated teams. It will challenge participants to succeed in team building, self-motivation, problem-solving, decision-making, and effective communication. Prior registration required. Must be at least 16 years old. Waiver and medical release forms are required. Parent signature required if under 18. Email degrel@sandhills.edu for required forms. You can also schedule a private group adventure.

“Sandhills High Adventure Ropes Course” will be held on Saturday, April 13 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $75.

Customized Training for Business and Industry

The Sandhills Community College Continuing Education team can customize courses to meet the specific needs of a business or industry, provide resources to assist in developing new training initiatives or to maintain and support current efforts. Courses can be held at convenient times for you and your staff at any SCC location, your business, or other convenient locations.

Seats are still available for these classes. To register in person, stop by the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall. You may also register by phone with a credit card at (910) 695-3980. Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
