The Advanced Manufacturing Program at the Sandhills Hoke Center offers high-tech, in-demand career training through state-of-the-art equipment designed to meet the growing demand for skilled workers. Through partnerships with local employers, the Advanced Manufacturing Program aligns class offerings and curriculum to provide employers a pipeline of skilled workers with job-specific skills.
“Mechanical Power Transmission Fundamentals-Level I” is designed to provide you with the necessary foundational content to understand working with mechanical power transmissions, this class covers reading blueprints, industrial mathematics to linear motion, drilling speed calculations and more. Topics are instructor led with hands-on demonstrations and troubleshooting performed by the student. Upon successful completion, you will be able to identify and apply learning to all fundamental content and demonstrate safe, proper maintenance and troubleshooting procedures.
“Mechanical Power Transmission Fundamentals-Level I” will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, Aug 6-Dec 12, from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $185 plus the cost of the text.
In the class “Mechanical Power Transmission Fundamentals Level III,” Learn the types, functions, and operations of packaging machinery. Topics include filling, labeling, capping, carton forming, conveying, wrapping, and other related topics. Upon successful completion, students will be able to effectively communicate with technicians and engineers on the terms, actions, concepts, and components of packaging machinery. Students learn about gear drives, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps and piping, and power transmission accessories; preparing them for well paying positions in advanced manufacturing.
“Mechanical Power Transmission Fundamentals Level III” will be held Tuesdays, Aug. 21-April 23. One class will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and a second from 4-8 p.m. The cost is $185 plus the cost of the text.
In “Basic Programmable Logic Controls”, learn basic logic operations, the creation of a PLC program, design of complex logic operations, storage function applications, implementation of program flow control, analog processing, and how to solve complex text assignments. This is the second of three classes in the SCC Automated Technology Certificate program. Prerequisites are: Basic electronics or basic knowledge of control engineering (basic logical operations, flip-flops, timers, counters, process control, function plans).
“Basic Programmable Logic Controls” will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, Aug 29-Jan 28, from 6-9 p.m.
Seats are still available for these Advanced Manufacturing classes. To register in person, stop by the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall.
