Scholarship List - General
"People Helping People" SECU Foundation Scholarship 1.) Four students in any program with preference to employees/family members in a public sector job (all federal, state, local government agencies) who live and work in North Carolina. 2.) Must be enrolled (or enrolling) as a full-time student; student should be a U.S. citizen and North Carolina resident and eligible for in-state tuition. 3.) Priority is given to students who best exemplify the membership philosophy of credit unions, “People Helping People” and have demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement. 4.) Preference may be given to students with limited financial aid from other programs. 5.) Student must maintain a 2.5 GPA. 6.) Uses of the scholarship are to pay tuition, books, fees, course supplies and transportation. 7.) Student agrees to continue at the community college where enrolled at the time of the scholarship award for the duration of the scholarship, for four consecutive fall/spring semesters or upon completion of a diploma program. 8.) Student must not be a Director, employee or family member of an employee of the State Employees' Credit Union or SECU Foundation.
Robert and Dorothy Swift Endowed Scholarship Four first or second year students in any major. Selection is based on merit, need and potential for success. Student’s must maintain a 2.0 GPA and may receive the scholarship a second year if qualified.
Frank L. and Gladys C. Guydes Scholarship One students enrolled in any program. The student must maintain a 3.0 GPA. May continue second year if qualified.
Richard S. Waterman Scholarship in honor of The American Red Cross First or second year in-state student enrolled full-time in any program. Scholarships awarded based on merit and financial need.
McNeill-Woodward Endowed Scholarship Two students who are residents of Hoke County. The recipients must demonstrate financial need. May continue second year if qualified.
Jean and Mary Jane Souweine Scholarship The student must be a first year student in any program. Student should have demonstrated potential for success in high school and financial need. May continue second year if overall 2.5 GPA maintained.
Central Electric Scholarship The student must be a first year student in any program. Must be a member of CEMC or child of a member and reside in member home. The selection is based on academics and community activity, and may continue second year.
William Halley Smith and Edith Thomas Scholarship First year students enrolled in any program. The student must be a graduate in the upper 20% of a Moore County school (public or private) and must maintain a 2.5 GPA.
Sandhills Community College Scholars Eligible Students graduating in the top 15% of high schools including Pinecrest, Union Pines, North Moore and Hoke High or another area high school. Must maintain a 3.5 GPA.
Travis Hill Memorial Scholarship First year graduate of North Moore High School. The student should maintain a 3.0 GPA.
Fritz and Olga Fuerst Scholarship A first or second year full time deserving student with financial need.
Gwendolyn E. Zimmerman Scholarship Awarded to (two) first or second year student selected based on need and merit. Student must maintain 2.0 GPA. First year student may continue receiving scholarship for second year if qualified.
Robert and Temperence Zimmerman Scholarship The recipient may be a first or second year student selection based on need and merit. Student must maintain 2.0 GPA. May continue second year if qualified.
Theresa Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship A first or second year student based on need and merit. The student must maintain a 2.0 GPA. First year student may continue receiving the scholarship for a second year if qualified.
The Capel Scholars Program A first year students majoring in any program, preference to business or healthcare. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA. The selection will be based on merit and need. The scholarship may continue second year.
Emily S. Bowles Endowed Scholarship First year student in any program with financial need. Student may receive second year if qualified.
William F. & Gertrude W. Ruska Scholarship Second year student judged to have potential for success. Must maintain 2.0 GPA and demonstrate need.
Marge Owings/Keep Moore County Beautiful Scholarship A first year Moore County graduate in LSG or majoring in an Environmental field. The student must present a record of involvement in volunteer activities and leadership roles. Scholarship may continue second year with 3.0 GPA.
Crystal Dawn Harrelson Memorial Scholarship First year graduate of Hoke High School. The student has shown exemplified giving of oneself and leadership in school activities and community. May continue second year if qualified
Woodrow and Mary McInnis Scholarship First year student enrolled in any program. Applicant must be a resident of Richmond County (Mineral Springs Township I or II-Ellerbe, Norman, Wind Blow or Derby. Student should demonstrate financial need.
Cato-J. T. Cotner Endowed Scholarship Must be resident where Cato has a market presence. Student must demonstrate financial need. Preference is given to students with evidence of work and community service history.
Luke Marion Scholarship The recipient should be a first year student who is a graduate of Union Pines High School. The student demonstrates potential for success. Financial need should be a consideration. Recommendation and selection provided by Counselors at Union Pines High School.
The Rainmakers Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to a second year student enrolled in any program. The recipient must be a single parent who has overcome barriers.
Dr. James E. Cook Endowed Scholarship Any first year student enrolled in any program. The recipient must maintain a 2.0 GPA and demonstrate a potential for success. The student has demonstrated leadership qualities in high school.
Hoke High Class of 1954 Scholarship First or second year student enrolled full-time who is a resident of Hoke County. Student must have financial need.
Dr. Julian Lake and Family Scholarship Any first year student enrolled in any program. The student must maintain a 2.0 GPA. Recommendations should express student’s potential for success.
The David & Carolyn Murphy Scholarship The recipient of this scholarship will be a second year student enrolled in any SCC curriculum program who maintains a 3.0 GPA. Selection is based on merit and financial need. Residents of Moore and Montgomery Counties are preferred.
Brownson Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund The recipient of this scholarship should be a first or second year student who is a current member of Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church of Southern Pines. A member for at least 2 yrs and must have and maintain a “C” average on high school and college.
General A.G. Schwenk Book Fund Selection will be made of honorably discharged, male and female personnel enrolled in a degree program. 1st) Marines and Navy Medical Corpsman having served with the Fleet Marine Force in excess of 90 days; 2nd) Children of deceased Marines or US Navy Corpsmen; 3rd) US Navy personnel; and 4th) Other US military services and US Coast Guard.
Wachovia Technical Scholarship Full Time student enrolled in the second year of a two-year technical program. The student has demonstrated financial need and scholastic promise. The scholarship may be used to pay tuition, books, and transportation up to the current amount of the scholarship.
Sandhills Cycle Club Scholarship A student enrolled in any program who demonstrates financial need. The recipient has shown drive and a determination to succeed. Preference is given to cyclists.
Junior League of Moore County Scholarship Preference is given to female students at-risk for leaving school. Student must be enrolled full time in any program and has demonstrated financial need. The student must maintain a 3.0 GPA. The recipient is encouraged to participate in one Jr. League activity per semester.
Barbara Hatcher Endowed Scholarship Fund Award to a deserving student enrolled full-time in any degree program at SCC. Selection will be based on merit, need and potential for success. The student may receive second year if qualified. Award is dependent on funding.
Hayley Hatcher Endowed Scholarship Fund Award to a deserving student enrolled full-time in any degree program at SCC. Selection will be based on merit, need and potential for success. The student may receive second year if qualified. Award is dependent on funding.
Jack Hatcher, Jr. Endowed Scholarship Fund Award to a deserving student enrolled full-time in any degree program at SCC. Selection will be based on merit, need and potential for success. The student may receive second year if qualified. Award is dependent on funding.
Nell Hatcher Endowed Scholarship Fund Award to a deserving student enrolled full-time in any degree program at SCC. Selection will be based on merit, need and potential for success. The student may receive second year if qualified. Award is dependent on funding.
Tere Hatcher Endowed Scholarship Fund Award to a deserving student enrolled full-time in any degree program at SCC. Selection will be based on merit, need and potential for success. The student may receive second year if qualified. Award is dependent on funding.
Barnes & Noble Scholarship Program Awarded to any first or second year SCC student with a 3.5 GPA or higher in any program. Student may receive the scholarship for a second year if they qualify.
Southern Pines Lion’s Club/Jim and Sarah Garrett Endowed Scholarship Awarded to a Moore County resident, preferably a Southern Pines resident enrolled full-time at SCC. Preference should be given to visually handicapped students. The recipient’s major fields of study could include (but not limited to) a service-oriented program; and the student should have demonstrated financial need.
American Legion AB Sally, Jr. Post 350 Scholarships Awarded to two first or second year students in any program, preference given to Moore County residents. The student has demonstrated financial need and has a military connection. The recipients should be a Veteran or active duty military.
Hendrix Family Scholarship Awarded to a first or second-year student from Hoke County. The recipient had at least a 3.0 High School GPA.
McLeod Family Scholarship Awarded to a first or second-year student from Hoke County. The recipient had at least a 3.0 High School GPA.
Student Government Association General Scholarship Awarded to one full-time students. The student must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA.
SGA Single Parent Scholarship Awarded to a single parent student at SCC with demonstrated financial need. Student must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.
SGA Military Spouse Scholarship Awarded to a full-time, second year student who must be a spouse or an enlisted, active duty soldier. Student must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA.
Jean Henning Krepick Memorial Scholarship Awarded to a full time student in any program.
Selection is based on the student’s integrity, initiative, and evidence of community service. Preference to be given to Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, youth group participation, team sports or team activities including band, debate or dance team. Student is to provide evidence of summer time work to help pay their own way. The recipient should have a 3.0 GPA in high school and maintain a 3.00 GPA at SCC. The student is to provide clearly articulated and well-conceived goals for their SCC education.
The Underdog Defray Scholarship Awarded to a first or second year student enrolled full time who has overcome obstacles in order to achieve educational goals.
Marion B. Walsh Spanish Cultural Immersion Scholarship Awarded to a student enrolled in the Spanish Cultural Immersion Summer Semester Class (SPA 161). Preference given to full-time curriculum students at Sandhills Community College; must have at least a 2.0 GPA.
The Sherrill Boyte Matthews Scholarship Awarded to a first or second year student in any program who is a single parent and who best exemplifies a passion for service to fellow students and to the community; must maintain 2.5 GPA; should demonstrate academic promise and may have financial need.
The Mary Ann McCormick Memorial Scholarship and Drug Free Moore County Scholarships: Awarded to a Moore County residents enrolled in Sandhills Community College. The Drug Free Moore County Scholarships support students pursuing disciplines that facilitate the prevention, intervention, and treatment of substance abuse in Moore County (including tobacco, alcohol and illegal drugs). Recipients’ major fields of study could include (but not limited to) health, education, social work, criminal justice, research, or employee assistance; recipients should have demonstrated a commitment to a drug-free lifestyle (i.e., through membership in one of the associated DFMC organizations) and should present a personal statement describing their commitment to a substance-free lifestyle. Students with financial need will be considered first; and recipients should maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA.
The Gordon H. and Ruth A. Clark Educational Fund Awarded to Moore County Residents who are deserving students enrolling full-time in any degree program at SCC; selection is based on merit and/or need.
The Ethel M. Heina Educational Fund Awarded to NC Residents who are deserving students enrolling full-time in any degree program at SCC; selection is based on merit and/or need.
The Charles F. Herman Educational Fund Awarded to a Pinecrest High School Graduates and/or Pinehurst residents who are deserving students enrolling full-time in any degree program at SCC; selection is based on merit and/or need.
The Ann L. Hinchcliff Endowed Scholarship Fund Awarded to a deserving student enrolling full-time in any degree program at SCC; selection is based on merit, need and potential for success. Students may receive scholarship for 2nd year if qualified.
The Ralph Nicolaff Scholars Fund Special aid may be awarded to students based on merit and potential for success to be determined by Faculty recommendations and Financial Aid Office; to be used for assistance with textbooks, special equipment needed for classes (i.e. uniforms, kits, etc.), and program certification testing and/or test-prep costs. These awards may be given to offer extra help to students already receiving other forms of financial aid.
The Rick Rhyne Memorial Scholarship Fund Scholarship created in memory of Moore County sheriff’s deputy Rick Rhyne. Preference will be given to children of law enforcement officers, Moore County first then any; awarded to a deserving student enrolling full-time in any degree program at SCC. Selections are based on merit and potential for success; students may receive 2nd year if qualified. If no deserving candidates are available who are children of law enforcement officers then scholarship will be awarded to a Criminal Justice Technology major (if none available then any major).
The Dr. W. F. and Joan Scott Sheldon Scholarship Fund Awarded to Moore County Residents who are deserving students enrolling full-time in any degree program at SCC; selection is based on merit and/or need.
The William Edward Starnes Educational Fund Awarded to Moore County Residents who are deserving students enrolling full-time in any degree program at SCC; selection is based on merit and/or need.
