How to Apply to SCC

We are pleased you are interested in attending Sandhills and hope you will choose to come here. We believe Sandhills is a special place - a place especially for you. Our personal concern for you as an individual student, the affordable tuition, and quality of education are hard to beat! You will feel the Sandhills difference the moment you arrive on campus.

For admission to degree, diploma and certificate programs, just follow the step-by-step checklist on this page. Questions? Call us, write us, e-mail us, or come by campus to visit the Student Services Center in Stone Hall.

  1. Fill out and mail the SCC Application for Admission to the Admissions Office. This version of the document is in PDF format and requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 (free to download and use). There is also a smaller (quicker to download) Flash version available, which requires the free Flash player. You may fax your completed application to (910) 695-3981.

    • Use your correct social security number on the application, and sign and date the application.

    • Select your major from the majors list and enter the corresponding code in the boxes provided. For example, if your major will be College Transfer Business Administration, enter code
      A 1 010B

    • Under "Residency Status" fill in the date you established permanent residency in North Carolina. Students may be eligible for in-state tuition status if they have established and maintained a legal residence in NC for at least 12 consecutive months prior to enrollment. Non-US citizens should bring a resident alien card, visa or I-94. If you have lived your entire life in North Carolina, enter your birth-date.

    • Register to take the placement test by completing the top right corner of the application or calling (910)695-3733.

  2. Have all your official transcripts (high school or GED, and any previous colleges attended) sent to the Admissions Office. To obtain your transcripts use the following high school or college transcript request forms. The document is in PDF format and require the Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 (free to download and use). Transcripts must be sent from the originating institution to be accepted as official documents.

  3. Following testing, you will be given a time to participate in a new student orientation session. All students - especially those interested in Health Sciences, Nursing, or Landscape Gardening - should attend the earliest orientation possible.

  4. See your academic advisor to plan your classes. We encourage you to register and pay for your classes during early registration opportunities to avoid the lines.

  5. If you are applying for financial assistance, it is very important that you mail the Free Application for Federal Student Aid as soon as possible.
