“When I'm asked for my educational background, I proudly say, I'm a graduate of Sandhills Community College!” exclaims Alumna Jennifer J. Meggs, President and Chief Operations Officer of Southern Software, Inc. in Southern Pines. She is a graduate of the Computer Programming program.
“In 1991, I really had no idea what I wanted to do but knew that a four-year university was not for me so I registered for the computer programming curriculum at Sandhills simply because my older sister was a programmer and I thought it sounded like fun. The instructors made the courses very engaging and addressed the students in such a way that built strong self confidence and self esteem. Teaching was not just a job for the instructors, it was their passion and it showed. I graduated in 1993 with an associate’s degree in Business Computer Programming and landed an interview with Nick Picerno, President/CEO and founder of Southern Software. I was hired in June 1993 as a customer support technician/programmer. I have been with Southern Software for almost 18 years and have worked my way up the ladder to President and Chief Operations Officer. It was up to me to do my part to find success and Sandhills definitely equipped me with the skills and confidence I needed.”
